Book review | The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo

About two years ago my mum lent me a book in Dutch that she raved about for months. Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying about decluttering, organising, letting go of the past and making choices is an international hit. In fact, Marie Kondo’s approach to organising your home one category at a time even has a name, the KonMari method.

Have you always wanted to write a book, but you can’t seem to set your mind to it? Do you wish to switch jobs, but you are too afraid to take the first step? Although The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying lacks structure, Marie Kondo’s long monologue is effective. The KonMari method is all about keeping those things that make you truly happy. For instance, don’t put a book you didn’t like back on your shelf, but throw it out and only keep the books you enjoy. Go through all that you own, only keep those things you love and your home will truly depict your personality and your surroundings will keep you focussed on your dreams.

This book helped me throw out so many stuff that I stored for the what-if scenarios in my head. Now that those things are gone, my home and mind feel lighter. I started with sorting out my closet and the before and after photo says it all.

If you apply this method to your home, I believe this book will help you reset your life and focus on what is most important to you.
